VOLTA PICTURES & PICTUREHOUSE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF THE LOST CHILDREN OF TUAM

6 August 2026 - Volta Pictures announces today it is partnering with Picturehouse Entertainment to release The Lost Children of Tuam in the UK. The deal was negotiated between Andrew Lowe from Volta Pictures Distribution and James Brown from Picturehouse Entertainment.

Volta Pictures Distribution will release in Irish cinemas on the 25th September with Picturehouse Entertainment releasing in the UK in October.

Directed by Frank Berry (Michael Inside), and written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (The Salt Path), the film is based on The New York Times article by Dan Barry. The film stars BAFTA-winner Monica Dolan (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), and co-stars Andrew Bennett (God’s Creatures) and Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones).

The film tells the real-life story of how, whilst researching the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway, for a local historical society, history enthusiast Catherine Corless uncovered the devastating possibility that as many as 796 children had been buried in unmarked graves on the property. The discovery began a campaign for justice for both victims and survivors of the home that has had a lasting impact on Ireland today.

Liam Neeson, who optioned the rights to the New York Times article, is producer for El Paso Films, along with Jules Daly for Big Red Films, Chelsea Morgan Hoffmann, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Oscar-winning Element Pictures and Martina Niland for Port Pictures. The film is presented by Screen Ireland and BBC Film in association with Fremantle, Coimisiún na Meán, MK2 and RTÉ with MK2 handling worldwide sales, with Volta Pictures Distribution releasing the film in Ireland.

The Lost Children of Tuam is presented by Screen Ireland and BBC Film in association with Fremantle, Coimisiún na Meán, and RTÉ as an Element Pictures, Big Red Films and El Paso Productions production in association with Port Pictures and co-producer Besides Pictures. mk2 Films is handling worldwide sales.
